Even though I didn’t read as many books this year as I have previously, I still had some good ones and a couple of 5 star reads. So in no particular order…
King of Scars
Damn this was a long year! It feels like ages since I read this! I also cannot believe I have to wait until 2021 for book 2. What is that!
This is a series I never knew I needed. I only picked this book up because I’d read The Darkest Star and loved it and this series came first. I honestly wasn’t expecting to actually like it let alone love it.
If I was surprised with how much I liked Obsidian you can only imagine my astonishment when the second book was just as good.
The second I read this book I knew it would be on this list. If you haven’t looked into this book yet I cannot recommend it enough!
Notes on a Nervous Planet
I cannot recommend Matt Haig’s books enough. There is definitely something for everyone here and they’re so honest and powerful.
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder
This one came out of nowhere! I picked it up on a whim with zero expectation and ended up absolutely loving it.
The Devouring Gray
Another one I wasn’t expecting to enjoy as much as I did – there’s a slight trend here isn’t there. I was so into it and I was so surprised.
I was very cautious going into this one. I wasn’t crazy about Hunted so Spooner didn’t have the best track record with me, but I loved it and I’d happily read more.
The Darkest Star
This in my only reread on this list. I wanted to get The Burning Shadow in this year but with work commitments I won’t finish it in time, but I’m glad I got this one in.
An Excuse for Murder
I was on a slight crime/murder roll in the middle of the year and this was a good one and one I would not have noticed had the author not gotten in touch.
